Here's a techie one.........
Vista Ultimate 64-bit
I get the following message:
"Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your
device"
I click the boxes to take me to the
"Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB940199)"
which apparently can help fix this (corrupt or deleted Infcache.1)
The thing is, I can download the fix but when applying WIndows states that
this update is not for my system.

Hi Paul,
Not sure why the KB is reporting your Windows version incorrectly as I
looked over that KB and your System meets the requirements.

Thanks SG,
I did a bit of tinkering and found that UNinstalling SP1 and restarting
helped.
Two things happened: some of the hardware installed automatically,
and second: anything else I forced an update on the driver and everytime it
completed it's install.
Then I reinstalled SP1 and carried on!
So, no hair loss today......
Paul
