Windows Media Player suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason. I see
that other people have had exactly the same problem but I have not seen any
solutions published. I have Windows Home Vista premium. The message I get is
that the file wmploc.dll has a version 11.0.6000.6336 where 11.0.6000.6324
was expected. what does this mean and what is the solution. If it is a
problem with Vista then surely Microsoft should fix it. Any advice PLEASE.

Glenn:

There is a cumulative update for Windows Media Player 11 in Vista. You
might try that, even though it will get you yet another version of
wmploc.dll. I would certainly back up the original version(s) of that DLL
before doing this.

Hope it's worth trying...

If you reboot and aren't fixed up, open up "cmd.exe" using Run As
Administrator (you must do this or this won't work) and then run:
unregmp2.exe /UpdateWMPVersion
in that prompt. After that, this will work.

Thanks to all of you for the suggestions. I found that I had the latest
version with the most recent updates, so I threw in the towel last
night. This morning I found that it had chosen to function as it
should. Karma from this group no doubt had the influence needed to fix
the problem. Roving
