Post subject: Windows Defender shuts itself off? Add to elertz Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>security (more info?)
Hi,
Ever since yesterday afternoon, whenever my computer 'turns off' or goes
into sleep mode and I turn it back on, the icon for Windows Defender pops up
and says it is not on. This has never happened before and I'm worried about
not having security. I have Windows Live OneCare - is Defender part of or
different from this? Also, I tried following some of the suggestions in some
of the other questions but I was not able to locate Windows Defender in my
'Programs' so I could change/uninstall-reinstall it. Any help would be
appreciated! Please be specific since I am not IT savvy Thanks,

OneCare has an "upgraded" Defender as part of the suite, which turns off
Windows Defender.

So then I have nothing to worry about, since Defender is part of OneCare?
Will it continue to pop up that Defender is not turned on everytime my
computer loads? - because that is going to get annoying! Thanks,
Stacy

Go to Control Panel,
Select Classic View,
Double click Security Center,
Select Change the way Security Center Alerts me,
Select Don't notify me and Don't show the Icon.
