What Epson reference are you referring to? Is there some URL?

Again, I use firewire with Vista very often with my machine, so I'm confused
by any indication that there's a problem on the Microsoft side here.

There are some firewire updates in SP1, and
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927827
may be helpful if you have a buggy firewire device. Other than that - any
vendor claiming this to be some Microsoft issue would probably either want
to identify the specific issue or work with Microsoft to identify it.

This isn't rocket science - but it *is* science. If there's a hardware or
driver or Microsoft problem here, following up with the appropriate vendor
(starting with the firewire port vendor) should be able to drive the
solution to fix/conclusion. Be specific about the problem you're facing.
Given your descriptions so far, I'm wondering if the 927827 advice is
relevant to your situation.

So is there a fix to the problem?  This is a really frustrating problem cos I went through the exact same phase.. Vista sees it for like 2 seconds then magically never sees it again.  Did all the usual bullcrap of check this that driver this that and also got the same annoying answers like "huh, it should work; mine did."So is there a fix to this problem?  Apparently it doesn't matter which firewire product.. the same thing happened to me with two different audio interfaces.

Mine just magically works, and the other people have apparently found their
issue to be hardware based, so I'm thinking you should get in touch with
your hardware / firewire port vendor for starters. =\

Is there a resolution to this problem yet? I have a new HP All-in-one with
Vista and I'm trying to connect my Canon digital video camcorder to it via
4-pin to 4-pin firewire. Like others in this discussion, something happened
the first time (very strange, it wanted to copy pictures from my outboard
harddrive), then it never again recognized the connection. No comforting
'new hardward found' message.

I've uploaded from this camera to my old XP machine, and to my husband's
Apple machine. I talked to Canon and walked thru a couple of tests, and the
camera is not at fault. Canon says that I don't need any extra software for
4-pin to 4-pin. There is no indication that Vista knows the camera is
attached -- nothing in My Computer, nothing that Windows movie maker can
find.

Any help much appreciated!
Longtime Windows user, new Vista user.
