@Ty
I'm also using a WMP54G. I tried your method but couldn't get the XP
drivers to install. Are you using a x86 version of Vista?
From what I've seen VAL and WLAN Optimizer don't seem to work with the
x64 versions of Vista.

Quest,
I actually am using an x86 version of Vista, and like I said I had no luck
with either VAL or WLAN Optimizer before installing the XP drivers for the
WMP54G. However, the VAL page at codecase.de seems to indicate VAL works for
both x84 and x64 versions of Vista.
It doesn't appear that Linksys provides 64-bit drivers for the WMP54G, and
my conclusion has been that neither the VAL or WLAN Optimizer solutions will
work with the current Vista drivers.
You might want to take a look at the following thread at Tom's Hardware:
It appears someone else was looking for XP Pro x64 drivers for our card, and
was directed toward the ralink drivers. I don't know if the driver in the
link will install for you, but it might be worth taking a look into.

I installed the latest ralink drivers and to my surprise they came
with a 3rd party network application which was compatible with Vista.
Previously I had tried other solutions but none of them had worked
until this one. I set tx power to 100% so not sure if it was just the
drivers or/ drivers and 100% tx power. My regular lag spikes have now
gone! I got the RT61 drivers by the way, not sure if it comes with all
of them

Hey all,
I have had this very same problem and I had already tried all the solutions I found on the internet.
I'm on Vista Ultimate 32Bit and I had already tried:
- Updating drivers (then I read about the WLAN Autoconfig stuff, about Vista being the cause of the problem)
- Then I tried WLAN Optimizer
- And Vista Anti-Lag 1.1
This all didn't work for me, and I read here that several other people have also tried these things without succes.
Then I read Ty's 'possible solution' on page 2 of this topic. I followed his instructions:
- Uninstall your drivers (through Vista's hardware configuration utility)
- Remove the "C:Linksys Driver" folder
- Download the Windows XP drivers here: http://www.linksys.com (I know it sounds weird but just do it)
- Run the setup.exe which extracts all files into a newly created C:Linksys Drivers (I suggest you don't change this folder)
- Go to the hardware configuration tool, right click your network adapter and choose: update drivers. Choose to manually search your computer and select the Linksys Drivers folder (this will automatically select all subfolders). Installation will work.
Then try Vista Anti-Lag 1.1 again (if you haven't already downloaded it just google for it)
This time Anti-Lag will do it's work (check your ping with this cmd.exe command:
ping <192.168.x.x (your router)> -t

Hi all, i am using windows Vista 32bit and i also get constant lag spikes with my wireless internet every 30-90 seconds where my ping goes from 1ms up to 3000ms. I have yet to find a solution regarding this problem for some time now, ive tried the Vista Anti Lag program and the WLAN Optimizer but neither of them are working for me. I am currently using a D-Link Di-524 Wireless Router and a D-Link WUA-1340 Wireless adapter on my desktop pc. I have tried what eminence posted but since i am using a D-Link it did not work for me =(. If anyone out there knows what i should do please reply thanks alot, and if you need more info about my computer or anything to help fix the problem just let me know thank you.
