Post subject: 2 questions on Vista Ultimate upgrade over XP Pro Sp/2 Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>installation_setup (more info?)
There is a dimmed file on my desktop named desktop.ini with nor folder
info in properties and showing the following text when opened:
[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21769
IconResource=%SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll,-183
[LocalizedFileNames]
Windows Calendar.lnk=@%ProgramFiles%\Windows Calendar\wincal.exe,-200
I'd really NOT like it on my desktop where it's visible. Can I do
something about it?
I have a Soudlblaster Audigy 2 on-board sound system that is working fine.
When I did the upgrade, which actually turned into a clean install putting
nearly everything of importance into a "Windows.old" folder, I had a USB
Plantonics headphone and mike unit plugged in. The sound works fine and
under the device manager it displays the Plantanics unit and that it's
working and it's driver is up to date. What it does NOT show in Windows
Ultimate that it did in XP is the icon which allowed me to open it's app and
switch between the speaker system and the headset and back again! I cannot
figure out a way to get any sound out of the headset?!
I called Plantonics company and they said it should be working by default in
Ultimate the way it was plaugged in when i installed the OS and that what
device manager shows proves it. And finally they siad I should contact
Windows tech to see what is wrong!
Can anyone help me with this problem?

Those two files are windows system files, best to not tamper with them. To hide them.
Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/View
- ensure there is a checkmark in the item 'Hide protected operating system files'
Check the Creative site for Vista drivers. Note: There are quite a few different versions of the Audigy hardware where a driver may or may not be common for all. Make sure any driver or patch is applicable to your specific Audigy version.

"Dim" icons refers to hidden or system files - the view via folder
options has been selected to show hidden and operating system files.
Simply deselect option - which is the recommended default.
