On a previously registered copy of VISTA Ultimate, I installed an evaluation
copy of Windows SP1. In the bottom right part of my screen, it states:
"Windows VISTA (TM)Evaluation Copy Build 6001." Now, many months later, I
have begun getting balloons that my evaluation copy is about to expire, and I
need to install any version of Windows VISTA. I REALLY do not want to do a
clean install, or loose any data or programs. Can anyone please tell me what
the procedure is?

Greetings?
Is there a similar procedure for those of us that installed Vista Ultimate
with SP1 (RC1) slipstreamed? The provided procedure will not sork for us
since SP1 was included in the original install bits.
Thanks in advance for any assistance or guidance you can provide!

Hi.
I have the same problem. I have uninstalled SP1 RC. After PC has been turned
off the watermark bottom right corner is gone.
My problem is when I install the final version of SP1 the problem comes
back. I don't think the SP1 RC uninstall procedure cleans out everything. Any
ideas? Regards KTR.

It's a known bug. The easiest way to get rid of the Evaluation Copy
text is to exchange the file user32.dll.mui with a patched copy that has
the text removed. This works only on English Vista editions however.
Download the attached file
Uncompress and extract the archive package to a folder.
Double click on watermark_fix.reg file to merge and install new
registry keys. These new registry keys will add a right click contextual
menu item of Take Ownership command when you right click on file or
folder.
Now, take ownership of user32.dll.mui file located in
C:\Windows\System32\en-US\ folder.
After merging registry value above, you can simply navigate to
C:\Windows\System32\en-US\ folder, right click on user32.dll.mui and
select Take Ownership option.
Make a backup copy of user32.dll.mui file by renaming the file to
user32.dll.mui.bak.
Copy the downloaded and cracked version of user32.dll.mui to
C:\Windows\System32\en-US\ folder, and replacing existing file if
applicable.
Reboot the computer.
I would strongly suggest to create a backup copy of the file before you
proceed. The result is that the Evaluation Copy message will no longer
be displayed.
If you are unceratin as to how to take ownership of a file, I have also
attached a reg fix which will do it for you. After running the reg fix,
if you right click the file in question, you will see, in the drop down
menu, an option to take ownership.

Since you have installed Vista at service pack level one already, there is
no uninstallation possible because there are no pre-SP1 files to roll back
to. You must reinstall Windows.
