We usually need the complete error message, not just a summary of it, to
offer much help. Right click on it and copy it to your next message.
However, if you specified the server name as POP3, that's an invalid
server name, even though it's a valid protocol. In this case, also tell us
which email provider you are trying to use. Many people choose
their internet providers as their email providers also, since most internet
accounts include one or more email accounts.

Dear Gary - well your advice is still being used. I have had problems with
unsent messages and discovered this site and your advice. As a novice in
this "fix-it-myself" game I am very grateful. Problem now fixed. Thanks,

You're very welcome. Glad you found that old post of mine and were
able to use it to fix your problem. However, it is better to consult the latest
posts first, because fixes get updated and replaced by newer ones.

We usually need complete error messages, not just vague summaraies of
them, to offer much help. Right click on your error message and copy
all of it to your next message.
However, what you've written so far suggests that you've used POP3 as
a server name, which is invalid, even though it is a valid protocol.
What email provider are you trying to use? Many people choose to use
their internet provider as their email provider also, since most internet
accounts include one or more email accounts.
