I havent yet bought a new PC, Thinking of a Dell but some one said that
window vista may not run some of my programs from my old PC that has win-XP.
Don't want to buy new software. Bye the way, I'm new to the computer thing.
Just want to have a workable PC
Don

You need to check on the software vendor web sites to see what programs you
currently have will run in Vista or have Vista patches. It is the nature of
the thing, that when going to a new OS some software is not compatible.
Much XP software will run in Vista, but some won't.

Actually that is true mainly for M$ OS's. Unixes and Linuxes do not seem to
have that problem anywhere near as much. It is not even reported in
Solaris that i know of. Just the same, i am sticking with XP (and linuxes)
for the forseable future.

What is true? I'm not sure what you are saying here. What does Solaris and
Unix/Linux have to do with the OP's question about program compatibility?

Incidentally, I bought the Belkin/Laplink product for Vista xfer, and it
doesn't work. (The computers connect, then the program stops when scanning
for programs to move.) And Laplink refuses to support it.

And I hate VISTA. I can't connect to the networked LJ on a Netgear print
server, several programs don't work ... and they've succeeded in making
everything useful harder to do than in XP Pro.

But of course you can have a little 'feed' bar. Wow.

Were you using Windows Easy Transfer or PCSync? BTW, Windows Easy Transfer
does not migrate applications. There is a separate applicaiton on Download
Center called "Windows Easy Transfer Companion" that can help you move your
applications from your old PC to your new one. You should give that a try.
Use Windows Easy Transfer to migrate your Application and OS Settings and
Data.

Cheers!

Hi John,

Can you provide details on what you mean by "overwritten the password"? Do
you mean that you password-protect your store and it is now overwritten with
another version that was not password protected or password protected and
can't remember it?

Thanks,
Vik
