Post subject: THE TRUTH about Vista THEMES (visual styles)
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>general (more info?)

I am fed up with reading posts saying that you cannot install other themes
on vista unless you use windowblinds.
This is wrong... here is the info you need if you want VISTA themes.

there are hundreds of vistual styles or themes for vista that work with no
third party application.
They do need however you to patch the dll that does the theming in vista so
it can take non microsoft signed themes.
This is similar to what existed in XP, and this also can be accomplished
without hassle with a program below (vistaglazz)
The new vista visual styles work only with vista and most have glass effects
just like aero glass has.

Where do you find them and how do you install them.?

You can find them here
http://browse.deviantart.com/customization/skins/vistautil/visstyles/?...er=9&al
NOTE: on the bottom of this page there is a NEXT link that takes you to the
next pages.. in other words s there are MANY pages
with themes -visual styles. You will have to check them one by one to see if
they are for vista because not all of them are.

Most of these are Vista Specific themes- visual styles and have transparent
effects like aero.
An example is this one:
http://shamushand.deviantart.com/art/Indigo-for-Windows-Vista-63342530

or this http://michel8170.deviantart.com/art/Satin-63941718

To use these themes you will need to patch the uxtheme DLL OR use this free
application:
http://www.codegazer.com/vistaglazz.htm

Hundreds of themes?

Yes, you can install themes this way but you are still hacking system files
to do so, and the Vista .msstyles are nowhere near as flexible as something
like WindowBlinds.

The Molten skin was created as an example of what WindowBlinds can do as far
as animations. I personally prefer a skin more like this:

There are 3 files that need to be patched to use unsigned Visual Styles in
Vista. shsvcs.dll, themeui.dll, and uxtheme.dll
You do know that Visual Styles and Themes are not the thing right?

No one. That still does not change the fact that I am fed up.

I guess you are not interested in themeing, only in trolling.

now run along... go post another bad post.
