Post subject: Static IP information lost Add to elertz Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>networking_sharing (more info?)
Using Vista home premium. Connecting wirelessly to trendnet tew-432brp
router. I am using Acer eNet management to configure the wireless
adapter.
I set up static IP and turn off DHCP and it works fine for a while.
Then for whatever reason connection drops and now the static IP
information is lost and it has reverted to "obtain IP address
automatically" (but since DHCP is turned off it won't connect anymore)
One reason the connection drops is when the microwave is turned on. I
don't mind the connection dropping so long as the stupid thing can
reconnect. Right now I have to go back, reset it to static and re-enter
the static ip information
Any ideas on where to start looking?
I have IPv6 unchecked.
I saw another note with the same problem that had a link to the
chicagonet site. I did what was recommended in that site but that was
rather inconclusive.
Here is what it said:
1. Log on to the Windows Vista client computer as a user who is a
member of the Administrators group.
2. Open the Network Connections folder. To do this, click Start, type
ncpa.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
If the User Account Control dialog box prompts you to elevate your
administrator token, click Continue.
3. Right-click the network interface, and then click Properties.
4. Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click
Properties.
5. Click the Alternate Configuration tab, and then click Automatic
private IP address.
6. Click the General tab, click Obtain an IP address automatically, and
then click OK two times.
7. Open the Network Connections folder again.
8. Right-click the network interface, and then click Properties.
9. Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click
Properties.
Steps 1 thru 7 are asking me to set up as non-static and then step 9
doesn't say what to do after clicking on Properties.
When I tried to apply the patch 929451 as suggested in that I got a
message saying this update is not applicable.
Any other suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

What the chicagotech.net said is for setup two IP addresses, one is static
IP and another for dynamic IP. In your case, you just setup assign IP
information manually. Or posting the result of ipconfig /all may help.

This problem went away when I stopped using Acer eNet mgmt and switched
to Vista native wireless network management
