Slow right click and/or copy when accessing memory card

Hi!
I suppose that this issue is not new. Vista copying problems are known
in general. I have Vista Ultimate SP1 (32bit).
Recently I tried to access a memory card to copy some pictures to my
desktop. Reading it of course was slow as expected. However even the
most simple things was slow too. For instance using combinations of Ctrl
and mouse clicks to select items (having the preview and details panes
closed) was extremely slow. The same when hitting Ctrl+C to copy the
files to clipboard. The same if I tried to right click on the selected
set.
Finally I had to install TotalCommander to do the job. Ofcourse copying
was still slow but selecting the files and moving around folders was as
fast as it would be using a harddisk.
Any ideas?
