Ha-ha... well...
Before starting the SP1 installation (full SP1 installation disk -
downloaded) I had 70GB free space on C drive. After completing the SP1
install I have 95GB free space. Interesting... LOL...

Don't think so...
From the article: "This issue occurs when you install Service Pack 1 (SP1)
for Windows Vista on a computer that is low on available disk space."
I had 70GB of free disk space (on a 160GB drive). The installation
instructions specify that 35GB free space is enough.

Upon further reflection, possibly this was the reason. However, I don't
think it was because of "low disk space" as the article says. I think this
is the default behavior, regardless. Here's why I think that.
I applied SP1 to two different systems:
One was a Desktop with over 100GB free space and I used the ~65MB Windows
Update download to to the install. This machine also about 25MB or so more
disk space after the install than it had before the install.
Another was a Laptop with 70GB free space. On this one I used the ~454MB
full package that I had burned onto a CD to do the SP1 install. Same thing
happened on this laptop, 25GB extra disk space afterward.
On both machines, previous restore points had been removed.
Hmm... I think they fiddled with something in the install package after the
KB article was written.

Thanks for the update! Thought that could be the only reason.
