Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>networking_sharing (more info?)

I have two laptops running on the workgroup both wireless and using
the same router.

Laptop 1 - XP Pro SP2
Laptop 2 - Vista Business

Computer I want to access via RDC (Computer Name on RDC Screen) =
CompName.Domain

XP Pro connects and brings up RDC terminal to machine to login.
Entering in the login and password logs into the machine.

Vista Business asks for credentials when logging into Domain:
CompName.Domain.
No RDC Terminal comes up.
The login and password entered gives an error message that "This
computer can't connect to the remote comuter".

Any ideas?

Laptop1 (XP Pro) and Laptop2 (Vista Business) do not connect to each
other.
They each are used separately to connect to CompName.Domain.

So CompName.Domain accepts the RDC connection from Laptop 1.
Laptop 2 does not find the domain. Exact message =

"This computer can't connect to the remote computer.

Remote Desktop cannot find the remote computer. Type the computer
name or IP address again..."

I don't know what NLA is.

Is Remote Desktop (RDC) enabled on Laptop 2?

Are you using the correct IP address to call Laptop2?

Is NLA disabled on Laptop 2 when you try to connect from an XP client?

What is the exact error message when you try to connect to Laptop 2?

Can you ping CompName.Domain from Laptop2?

Is the target PC in a domain or in a workgroup?

NLA => Network Level Authentication. If the target PC, ie. CompName.Domain,
is not running Windows 2008 Server or Vista Ultimate/Business then make sure
Laptop2 is configured like this.

If you suspect an authentication issue see this FAQ for possible help...

Excellent point.

Laptop1 CAN ping TargetPC
Laptop2 CAN NOT pint TargetPC

Laptop2 = Vista Business
Both machines are running the same version of Norton 360. Both
machines are connected wirelessly to the same wireless network.

I obviously have a security setting in Vista that I am unaware of.
Thoughts?

Thanks
