Post subject: Problem loading game on new computer Add to elertz Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>games (more info?)
Hi
Ive been reading the post here about direct x but I dont really understand
all of it.
I have a question that hopefully someone will know the answer to.
Ok, everytime I try to install my game onto the computer it installs but
when I try to play, it gives me an error msg about d3drm.dll not being found.
then vista closes the game.
I tried reinstalling but the same thing happens. Ive figured out that it has
to do with direct x but I dont know what exactly.
If one of you guys or gals knows what this is about Id appreciate the help
Thanks in advance

D3DRM.DLL is Direct3D Retained Mode, a very old technology from 1997 that
was removed from Windows Vista. Almost no applications use it, but it sounds
like the one you are trying does. What game is it?

This is not the same as installing or re-installing DX 9.0c.
I did a search on my system and my XP install does have the D3DRM.DLL file,
but my visa install, in which I did install all of the DX updates, does not.
Is the game you are trying to install fairly old ?
If you have another computer system with XP on it, you could search for
thatfile, Should be in the c:\windows\system32\ folder and copy that file to
your vista system to teh same C:\windows\system32 location
If not,you can download the file from this location. downloading from an
unknown site is always a bit risky, so I'd suggest finding someone with an
XP install and using ther file. but this will get you where you are going. I
did a file compare to the one I had and the one listed in the link, so it
appears to be the same file.

On the game's disc there should be a folder called DirectX, or DXsetup or
similar. Try running that, if you can't find one on the disc download the
DirectX program from:

Hi
Actually if you download that dll and place it in program files\hasbro
\boggle (or wherever you installed boggle), then all you need to do is
run te boggle program in compatibility mode (right click on the boggle
icon, and choose properties). If you run it as a Win98 program, with
the dll file in place, it works a treat on vista!

Hi; I was able to get my old boggle game running on Vista 64x by
copying the entire Boggle folder off my old Windows xp system (located
in "Program files/Hasbro". When you double click "Boggle.exe" it will
give you the error message: d3drm.dll file not found. Locate the missing
file in the old Windows\system 32 folder and copy to the "Boggle folder"
on the vista system. Then double click the "Boggle.exe" again. It will
give another error message with another missing .dll file. Again locate
the file in the old windows system 32 folder and copy to the new boggle
folder on the vista system. I did this for four different .dll files and
then the game ran perfectly!!!!
