Post subject: Problem with Neverwinter Nights/Vista Add to elertz Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>games (more info?)
I recently purchased a copy of Neverwinter Nights Diamond Addition. I
installed the game along with a patch that i was told i needed. The
patch was actually from the Neverwinter site.
I still can't get the game to work. It start out with the entire intro
and game option screen but justs soon as you choos an option, the screen
turns completely black. You can still hear the music though.
I have no clue what I'm doing wrong other than not getting a different
OS that will accept games like this.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm not a real big
gamer but have played this game at my brothers house. I would like to
be able to play it at my own home.

Make sure you download the most recent drivers for your video card. Next,
you can try compatibility mode (right click the program, and click the
Compatibility Tab), and try running it as Windows XP SP2.
See if either of those work.

Sounds like maybe you never installed the latest version of DirectX
which has DirectX9 files the game probably needs. Microsoft, in their
not so great wisdom, shipped Vista with DirectX10 and not all the DX9
files needed that many older games need to run. Download DXwebsetup.exe
from Microsoft and run that while connected to the internet.
