Installed Free AVG 8 here today on two systems - Vista Home Premium SP1 and
XP SP3 with IE7.
On the Vista machine, the installation of AVG 8 broke IE7 in opening a
second window - it just hung until the "not responding" message appeared.
I tried installing AVG without the surfsearch function, and without the
Linkscanner module - still couldn't open a second window in IE.
Uninstalling of AVG 8 cured the problem.

The installation on XP SP3 with IE7 had no effect at all. IE7 behaved
perfectly normally.
Anyone seen this, and is there a fix?
(The reason I went for AVG is that it picked up a virus on my XP machine
that Avast! did not.....)

Did you uninstall Avast before you installed AVG 8.0?

If so, did you run the Avast removal tool (aswclear.exe) before you
installed AVG 8.0?

http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear.exe

[SAVE aswclear.exe to your desktop & run manually, do not RUN it directly
from the download!]

Did you reinstall AVG 8.0 without the Safe Search and Link Scanner modules
without first uninstalling AVG 8.0 or did you uninstall AVG 8.0 first?

Strange symptoms indeed! I can't imagine what would cause them.
I *can* tell you that your last statement above would still be true
if you took an anti-virus from column 'a' and a different one from
column 'b' and substituted them for your choices. Sometimes it's
just a matter of what the vendor decides is worth alerting on and
sometimes it's just because they all miss something sometime.

Both of those anti-virus programs are 'adequate' IMO - so 'if
it ain't broke, don't fix it' applies.

Hi,
Try disabling other browser add-ons (not AVG) to see if there's a conflict
with another add-on.

I did uninstall Avast! through Control Panel-Programs and no I didn't run
the Avast! Removal tool. Didn't know there was one...however, I didn't run
that on the XP machine either, and IE7 functions perfectly normally on
that...

Additional info - uninstalled Avast using the cleaner tool. Installed AVG
without Safesearch and Link scanner modules. No change in behaviour - IE7
still hangs on opening a second window - Firefox does NOT however.
