Moving your Documents to a different location

After much searching and reading everything in here, i finally searched
outside and found the answer.
Short version:
1) Click 'Start'
2) On the right hand side of the 'Start' display you'll see 'Documents'
3) Right click on documents
4) Left click on 'Properties'
5) Select the 'Location' tab
6) Follow the directions
(The 'Move' button only takes you to find a 'Target' folder.
You have to hit 'Apply' to set things in motion.
Also, the 'Find Target' button is sort of like half the 'Browse' button
everywhere else.)

I haven't tried it on the other folders yet, but a quick glance at
'Pictures' seemed
to afford the same capability.

If you click on your login name though, it does not have a 'Properties' tab.

It would be nice (Microsoft) if you could 'move' your login name to a new
location and it would take everything (ie Documents, Pictures et al) with it.

if i find the original page where i found these instructions, i'll post it
up here to give credit where credit is due.

hell's bells!!! even easier:
1) click on your login name on the 'Folders' list (in my Computer)
2) up pops all the 'predefined dealies'
3) right click on one, select Properties
4) Select 'Location' and away you go.
also note, you don't even need to dink around with the Move and Find Target
tabs.
i my 'target' location is V:\Users\mitchh\. when you first get in 'Location'
the current location is already specified. all i had to do was change the C
to a V and hit 'Apply'.
if the target diectory does not exist, the system will ask if you want to
create it.

Note, you can't move the 'Desktop'.
(either because it's "busy and locked in" or the OS want to keep it where it
knows it exists for sure. (ie if you move it to a removable hard drive,
what's the OS to do when it can't find a desktop.))

Now backing up data will be much simpler.
Yes. Please copy everything off this drive.
No hunting and pecking and 'damn it, there goes another gigundic video file.'
