Post subject: Missing "Pictures" Folder Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>file_management (more info?)
When I go to the start menu the "Pictures" icon is there, however it is
white and when I right-click the only options are Copy, Rename and
Properties. When I choose Properties, it is all blank and only shows the
General screen.
I have tried to search for shell:My Pictures, and it just says "No
items match your search". However shell:My Music and all the others
work. I just can't seem to find a way to restore this Pictures folder.
I also tried to restore a picture in my recycle bin in hopes that it
would bring me to my folder but it just gave me "Error 0x80070570: This
file or directory is corrupt and unreadable".

Hello cc04,
Using Option Two in this tutorial, check to make sure that the Pictures
folder (My Pictures in registry) has it's default
'%USERPROFILE%\Pictures" location set in the registry.

Thank you so much for your help Shawn. However I followed Option Two of
the tutorial (the location was actually already correct) and restarted
my computer about 4 times just in case and still, nothing. Do you know
of anything else I could possibly try?

Umm,
Check the other location in this link to make sure that Pictures folder
(My Pictures in registry) has it's default "C:Users\(your user
name)\Pictures" location set in the registry also.

I went to the Shell Folders section of the registry. Under "Name" where
it said "My Pictures", it matched up with "C:\Users\Melissa\Pictures" so
I'm assuming thats also right..
I'm not sure if this is related but when I typed
C:\Users\Melissa\Pictures into the white search bar, the Pictures folder
came up and when I clicked "Open" it gave me that error window that said
"c:\users\melissa\pictures is not accessible. the file or directory is
corrupted and unreadable" again.
How frustrating! Let me know if I just misunderstood what you meant.

Ok, see if running chkdsk can repair the file corruption.

I tried literally all of those options to perform checkdisk and none of
them seemed to fix anything, so who knows what my next step should be.
Thank you though!

You can try doing a repair (upgrade) install to see if you can fix it to
maybe be able to salvage the files in the Pictures folder. Since it that
corrupted, I do not know if it can save them or not though.
