My computer is Toshiba and my Vista is Home Premium.
It doesn't shutdown or restart properly
Is not installing updates
When I shutdown (by holding button since won't do it through start button)
these popups occur on my screen- not internet explorer:
Desktop Window manager has stopped working
Userinit Logon Application - - -
Synoptics Touchpad Enhancements - - -
Windows Defender User Interface - - -
Task Schedule Engine - - -
Toshiba Custom PlugIn Application - - -
HD Audio Control Panel - - -
LtMoh MFC Application - - -
Toshiba Power Saver - - -
Smooth View - - -
Toshiba Flash cards - - -

PLEASE HELP ME! I'm kind of computer illiterate and don't know what half of
this stuff means.
Please email me at Aimee14887.RemoveThis@yahoo.com and title the email as computer
help! THANKS

Hi, Aimee.

I'm sorry you're having problems, but please understand how newsgroups (also
known as Communities or discussion groups) work. With few exceptions, we
are not Microsoft employees. We are just users like you who had a problem
and came here to find a solution - and found other users with problems that
we had solved, so we posted what we knew. Many of us stick around and post
so often that we are regulars here; a few of us have even been awarded the
MVP (Most Valuable Professional) designation by Microsoft. But we are still
just volunteers and we don't speak for Microsoft. Some are true experts;
others are like me, a retired accountant.

In a newsgroup, please don't ask for email. In email, only two people can
benefit. In a newsgroup, thousands of readers all around the world can
learn - and help others. And thousands more simply "lurk"; that is, they
read (and learn) but seldom post. In newsgroups, "lurking" is A Good Thing.
;<) So, please, post your questions here, then come back here for any
responses.

As to your actual problem...

I didn't recognize the phrase, "Desktop Window manager", so I Googled for it
and found a lot of information, but none that seems to explain your problem
to a non-techie like me. It appears that Mark and Marc gave you some good
advice (while I was searching). Since I don't have any helpful hints, I'll
back off now. Good luck!

If I were you I'd put in the Toshibe Restore CD and put it back to factory
settings. Sound's like you've installed some sort of Malware there.
That will loose all your data - so first do this:

Start up in Safe Mode. Hopfully this will work.

Turn on PC.
Keep tapping F8.
When the menu appears choose Safe Mode.
Wait for Windows to boot. Hopfully it wont have all these problems.
Drag your files to a USB memory stick.

Of course, make sure you get these files Virus checked before you put them
on your laptop after restoring it.

Someone else may know a way to resolve this without a restore - but for me
it's just quicker, easier and almost always guarenteed to sort it.

Marc
