Post subject: Locked out of administrator Add to elertz
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>administration_accounts_passwords (more info?)

I own a dell laptop and I am the administrator of the computer. I
thought it might be a good idea to also make a guest account for family
or friends that don't know my password. After I activated the guest
account i logged off to see if the account worked. sure enough, it did,
however when i tried to log in again as the administrator i recieve a
message that the password is incorrect even though i never changed it.
I have already tried safe mode which didn't work. I don't have much
saved on my computer so if theres any way to help with erasing old data
that is okey with me.

Thanks

Hi Totallytiegs,

You might try Method Four in this tutorial to see if you can log on
with your password afterwards. Even if you did not change it, something
may have. If it does not work, then you can do Method Three.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/102005-reset-user-account-password.html

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I also tried to find the real built in administor on the guest account
but you need the admin computer to do that too.

Sorry, Vista has a heavy-handed security system.

There are no workarounds once you lose your password and administrator
control/permission.

These are your options:

1) try the methods Brink offered.
2) use password disc that you made when you created your password, if you
made one. (No, you can’t make a password disc on another computer)
3) use the "hint" that Vista will display when it rejects your password
4) if #1 or #2 or #3 don't work then you'll have to reinstall Vista to
regain administrative control.

Good luck…

If you mean the password reset disk from Method Three in the tutorial
above, then yes it will work on your computer when made on another
computer.

Right, Brink, I was talking about the Vista password method. Sorry about the
confusion.
