I'm having a problwm with my desktop icons which are all black boxes. I'm
not sure what caused this. If I right click on the desktop and click
'refresh' I can see the correct icons flash underneath then they go back to
the black boxes. I have a folder on my desktop which I store hardly or
unused icons. When I open this folder they also have the block box only
this is where that small icon arrow is at the bottom left. When I change
the size of the icons with the view tab they change from black boxes to some
other icon and I can see the original icon. Whats Up?

This worked for me:
Rightclick on desktop
Select Personalize
Select 'Display Settings'
In the 'Colors' dropdown box choose 'Medium (16bit), then Apply, then OK
Next, reboot
After login
Rightclick on desktop
Select Personalize
Select 'Display Settings'
In the 'Colors' dropdown box choose 'Highest (32bit), then Apply, then OK
At this point, your icons should be back to normal.
