I upgraded to Vista from XP Home. I successfully imported my favorites
and cookies from the old XP machine to the Vista machine. I discovered
the location of my favorites but I can't find where Vista IE7 stored
my cookies. Can someone point me to the right folder location to the
cookies. I want to add the cookies folder to my backup routine.

Hi Tek,

Cookies in Vista are stored at:

C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies\Low

AND

C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/60641-cookies.html

Hope this helps,
Shawn

AND in the Temporary Internet Files folder which you can't see without
turning off UAC.

I actually think that folder is the primary repository, and the others
are some kind of mirror.

Something else is going on with cookies in Vista. My cookie cleaner
program finds the tree you mention but when I go looking for it (even
showing hidden folders) there is no cookie subfolder in the windows
folder.

Also, there is one cookie in a folder which is never found and cleaned.
Maybe it's in the cookies/low folder but I don't see that one either.

Any thoughts on how I can see these folders would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Alja, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You will just have to also uncheck the *Hide protected operating system
files *option in Folder Options to see those files. :geek:

Thanks for the quick reply Shawn, but I've got a wierd one here. I
unchecked HIDE PROTECTED SYSTEM FILES as you suggested but still don't
see the folder. I find the cookie file in Firefox with no problem but
still can't find the one for IE7. Sneaky people those Microsoft
programmers.

Well I did finally find the files by going to folder options clicking on
the search tab and ticking include system directories. There seem to be
multiple cookie folders and the program I'm using 'Cookie Monster' only
locates some of them. Can someone recommend a program that will do a
good job of selectively cleaning cookies in Vista?
