I was infected with Antivirus 2009 last week and spent time cleaning it out
and upping access levels. My laptop is also used a lot by the kids so this
was necessary. Now anytime I try to download a file I get one of two errors.
If I try saving it all looks fine until the download is complete and then I
get an error saying "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy
this file" - I am the adminsitrator so why can't I download it? If I try
opening the file the error is simply "user does not have access privileges".

Have rolled back to an earlier restore point, have reset default security
values, looked in Windows Defender, Firewall, etc. and my antivirus
applicaiton (McAfee) to no avail. Any suggestions?

All of the infections with this malware that have come into my shop in the
last few months have also had Vundo and Zlob infections and been protected
by a rootkit. Without knowing how you actually cleaned the system, there is
a good chance it is *not* clean. Or if the system is clean, the operating
system has been badly damaged.

You can get guided help at one of the specialty forums below or back up your
data and do a clean install of Windows. I recommend the latter, but of
course it is your choice. PLEASE DO NOT POST ANY LOGS HERE IN THE MS

Check the permissions on any directories used to store your downloads.
