Hello,

Is there anyone here with a Dell Dimension 9200 running Vista Ultimate.

If so, and it is running trouble free, would you please say what you have
for audio card and video card.

Hi,

Why don't you post what you are using or are thinking of using? Then someone
may be able to tell you if and how well they work under Vista.

I have two identical PCs as noted. One at work and one at home. Both have
integrated audio and both have nVidia 7900 GS video cards.
I have been experiencing a lot of system re-boots and I suspect the audio or
video. I am leaning more toward the video as I am not having any other audio
problems that a lot of people seem to be having.

Each system re-boot is precipitated by an audio event - a certain clicking
sound will do it as will trying to listen to certain internet radio stations
with Winamp - or a video event - trying to play any mpeg with Windows Media
Player. Then I get a blue screen and the PC restarts and tells me it is
error code 124 - which one of the Dell techs said is a fatal or unsolvable
hardware error - cančt remember which.

I have spent hours with Dell tech support and the problem remains. Dell has
offered to exchange both systems with identical systems. I accepted their
offer and will have the new systems next week. They have extended the 30 day
exchange & return period for 2 weeks so I will have until the 2nd week of
April to either accept these new PCs or return them.

I expressed my concern that it may be the video card causing the problem and
they made me an additional offer: That if I replace the video card with a
different make or model and it corrects the problem they will accept the
return of the 7900GS nVidia cards and will credit me for them.

So...just trying to find out if anyone has a an identical system that is
trouble free and if so what their audio video configuration is.

FK

PS: please pardon spelling é grammar - damn Canadian French keyboard is
turned on and I cančt turn it off.

Hi

I have a Dell Dimension 9200 but only running Vista Premium. I have
integrated audio (running SigmaTel High Definition codec) and 256mb ATI
radeon X1300 pro. I've been having problems with crashes (blue screen of
death!!!) with some video files running on media player. Also having
problems with some games (eg. UT2004 crashes pc at start up screen) and music
seems to skip every so often at the same time as cpu spikes.

Are you having any similar problems?

Charlie

Hi,

If you read my previous reply to Rick Rogers you'll see the problems I was
having and my set-up.

Today the new Dells arrived and initial tests seem to indicate that the
problems have been sloved.

Fan is even quieter.

Hopefully you're still within the 30 day period for returns / exchanges.

Frank
