DVD Maker won't let me add Divx .avi files; it says they're "invalid or
corrupted", even though the files play fine in media player (the codec is
from divx.com). How do I get DVD Maker to recognize and use the codec?

Haven't tried that yet but Microsoft isn't exactly fond of DivX as it was
hacked from a MS codec.

Try Xvid or ffdshow codecs. Supposed the new 6.25 divx is vista compatible
but otoh I don't use dvd maker but video vegas.

all of a sudden dvd maker is having the same problem with me after
making several dvds, randomly just started calling all avi files corrupt
or invalid, even files I have previously burnt onto a dvd

This may not be a solution as some people are weary of codec packs. I
use this one on my XP & Vista boot and I am happy with it.

For the most part I hate the intrusion and quirkiness of WMP and this
codec pack comes in with a Zoom player that will play everything you
want to throw at it, aside from giving you the necesary codecs.

'Combined Community Codec Pack' (http://www.cccp-project.net/)
