Or tried boot off last known configeration which worked or whatever it is by
pressing f8 at boot screen?

I do not know what is going wrong with the process. But I think you should seek help from an expert. If you find it difficult to get an expert you can visit http://www.supportonclick.com. I got their help while installing Vista in my pc. The staffs out there are extremely skilled as well as helpful to lend any kind of tech support if you need. They have helped me a lot to solve a number of tricky issues related to computer. I hope they will also help you if you share your problem with them.
