I've seen this posted here, but nobody ever had an answer, so I'll ask it
again. When I first installed Vista, Chess Titans worked fine, recently,
however, I get the following message on startup:
could not find texture
(Media/TableWood.dds)
the d3d device has a non-zero reference count, meaning some objects were not
released.
failed creating direct3d device objects
Each is repeated twice, then on the final click, the app closes.

Fairly easy solution;
1) You need to enable "Show hidden files and folders" from the view tab of
the Folder Options. (Instructions to do this are available from "Help and
Support" search for "hidden files")
3) Edit ChessTitans.xml; (Right Click the file and select Edit)
Change <Rendering>X</Rendering> (X will be any number other then 0) to
<Rendering>0</Rendering>
Save and close the file start chess titans from the program menu.
it seems this error happens when you set the Graphics quality to the highest
setting enabling the "Smooth edges" option.

Hi Brock,
Thanks for replying, but unfortunately, that didn't work. I even tried
uninstalling Chess Titans after trying this, renaming the xml file and
reinstalling. I still got the same error.

I got Brock's solution to work. I made a couple of added changes:
** <PieceStyle>*0*</PieceStyle>
** <BoardStyle>*0*</BoardStyle>
II don't know if that had anything to do with it actually working. But
after I closed down the program and tried again, it started working.
It's not in the style I like, but now I'm afraid to change anything :p
