Since 64 bit Vista can only install as a clean install are you trying to
install it as a clean install in the same partition that your 32 bit Vista
version is installed in so that it will let you upgrade from 32 bit to 64
bit?

That question came to me as well, but when I went to Google Groups and
reviewd all his posts, in an earlier post he said he was booting from
the DVD... so he's not upgrading.

You can not do an upgrade to Vista 64 from another 32 bit OS unless you boot
from the DVD the installation process will then check to be sure that you
are replacing an already licensed and upgradable OS.

OK, I admit I may not have been completely clear on this. When I
attempt to boot from the DVD, I don't even get far enough to choose an
installation method. I get no installation screen at all. I get to
"Press any key to boot from CD/DVD" then I press a key and it starts
loading that long white bar. When it gets to the end it either freezes
or gives me a BSOD telling me something about how the process was
stopped to prevent damage to my computer, followed by that STOP error I
provided earlier.

Apparently as previously suggested the Vista 64 bit installation does not
find the model number of your CPU in its list of tested and approved CPUs or
your CPU does not behave as expected when the 64 bit installation commences.
It appears that you will just have to stick with Vista 32 bit which you say
that you now have been able to install successfully.

??
I have two brand-new matched DIMMS from Crucial and a two-year-old
DIMM from Mushkin. No problems whatsoever.

The problem comes with an unmatched pair DDR2 Dimms and your pair of DDR2
Dimms are matched.

But what if I took one of the Crucial sticks out? The two remaining
are not from the same manufacturer as you say they should be?
