First I'd like to say thank you to all who have tried to help me. To
answer everyone's questions yes I have downloaded cpu-z and the
processor is EM64T. I have looked up the specs of the motherboard and
and as far as I can tell it supports 64 bit as well. If anyone has
additional ideas please let me know.

In general MS software checks the model numbers and not the charasterics of
hardware such as processors, display controllers, etc. that it is trying to
be installed on to see if the model number found has been tested for the
being installed product and if not found it its list then it will not
install. Regretfully, I suspect that the model number or your CPU
installation DVD's list for either Vista 64 or 32 even if you have been able
to run Windows XP or Windows XP 64 bit on it.

When you try to install are you booting from the one of the Installation
DVDs or instead are you trying to run the SetUp program on them from another
running OS?

I don't know if this helps, but here is the error message on the blue
screen that appears when I attempt to install.

Could you also please post the text from the BSOD?
That error when installing Vista is almost always hardware related. It is
quite common with some motherboards when you have 4GB installed. As you only
have 2GB that's probably not the cause in your case The first thing I'd
do is test the RAM. Even though you can run other OS's doesn't mean there
isn't a problem with the RAM. Vista will sometimes fail with marginal RAM
when XP works fine. I like memtest86+. You need to run it for at least four
or five hours. I usually let it run overnight. If there are any errors or
problems at all when running the test then you have bad RAM.
If you have any external devices connected remove them. Try to get the
system to a state where you only have the bare minimum of devices hooked
up, - one hard drive, one DVD drive (preferably IDE), one video card, and a
PS/2 mouse and keyboard. If there is a driver available for your SATA
controller install it during the Vista install. Some SATA controllers cause
this error even though the drive is recognised on the screen where you pick
where to install Vista. On that same screen there is a button to "Load
Driver".

I am attempting to boot from the DVD. I disconnected everything except
for one Hard Drive and One Video card and still the same problem. Every
now and then it doesn't even get to the bsod, it just hangs up at the
end of the "Initializing Setup" screen. I have run some memory tests
and everything appears fine, but I have heard that the voltages could be
wrong. How would I be able to tell what voltage the RAM needs to be at?

Are your 2 1GB DDR2 ram dims a matched pair from the same manufacturer? I
ask since Vista runs a memory test that requires that they are or that they
appear to be.
I also suggest that you try to get Vista 32 bit to install before you try 64
bit again since I am quite sure that if 32 bit will not install then neither
will 64 bit.
What OS have you been running previously on your system?
Are you using retail Vista Upgrade DVDs or retail full version DVDs?

I am booting from an Upgrade copy of 64 bit vista. I have installed 32
bit Vista and it does work properly, but the 64 bit does not. Also, the
RAM is a matched pair of Mushkin DDR2s.
