The subject says it all. I right click on an icon, choose "open", and
nothing happens. But if I double click, it starts right up. Any ideas? What
virus is this?

No, it doesn't. In fact, it is false. You don't open icons. You open
programs. You never bothered to mention what program is associated to
the filetype that you attempted to open.

Probably because the default action is "edit" and the program designated
for that action actually exists. You chose "open" which is not the
default action, and the program for that doesn't exist, is in a
different path than specified for the open action, or the open action
doesn't even specify a program to handle the UNIDENTIFIED filetype that
you wanted to open.

And what does your topic and post have to do with this newsgroup?

Probably just a Context Menu problem and not a malware related. Stick to your OTHER,
Vista, thread.

Well, it could be a virus as far as I know.

But why does a double click open the program, but not "open?"

There is a bug in MBAM paid version that will cause that, do you have that
installed? If not then try my Explorer Shell Fix tool. Download it here

And it could be your kids or parents putzing around on your host? Or
the effect of PEBCAK.

Because a double-click selects the *default* action assigned to that
filetype. "Open" may not be the default action. Maybe "Edit" is the
default action. You'll actually have to go look at the filetype
assocation, advanced, to see what actions are defined for that filetype
and which one is the default one.

Since you opened a MULTI-posted thread on the same topic in a different
newsgroup (according to David) rather than cross-post, continue your
*disconnected* discussion over there.
