I used to use avg anti virus and used to swear by them but I am sick of
problems of late with the resident shield not loading. (Uninstalled it and
Re-installed the latest build loads of times, even removing user settings to
be sure, but still can't fix it).

I tried kasperspy but it said it was incompatible with zone alarm, didn't
want to lose my firewall so now using Avast.

Did I make a wise choice? Bear in mind I'm using zonealarm and spybot search
and destroy, ad aware, ccleaner, and avg anti-spyware, and spydoctor that i
de-activated for now.

I have been pretty happy with the Avast free. I have tried Avira, AVG.
Commodo, and now Avast and I like it best

IMO you are using a good product. I used EZ Trust for many years (got
it free from Microsoft), but decided to try Avast or AVG when it came up
for renewal (at $20).

So I had no particular reason to pick one over the other, but went with
Avast. Ran a scan in early September and I was fine. Ran another a
week or so ago and was stunned to see I allegedly had two trojans which
had not been caught by either EZ Trust or Avast.....yet the dates were
earlier in the year.

I could not find "Win32:Agent LQK" anywhere on the virus lists or for
that matter, not much on Google. My impression is that it was a false
alarm. But I ran all the precautionary things and also put Zone Alarm
back on here after running with just the XP firewall for a year or more.

Aha....just pulled up the Log Viewer to see which files were affected
and the wording is as follows.....

/SIGN OF/ "Win32:Agent-LQK [Trj]" has been found in "C:\Program
Files\InstallShield Installation Information\ and then a huge long
number. There are two of these. Plus two in System Restore.... "Sign
of"???? As in just a maybe?? Or False Alert???

Anyway, I have ZA Pro, AdAware, Spybot, SpywareBlaster and have HiJack
This on board as a just in case. I do not like Crap Cleaner or Spyware
Doctor. Tried them and uninstalled them.

So that is how I have fared with ZA Pro and Avast and other than one
tiny shutdown glitch, I have had no problems. When installing ZA, it
did say that it might have problems with Avast, but so far, nothing.

Sure would appreciate some viewpoints on this alleged trojan tho.

Cheers.....Heather

I like avast. Use it myself, and install it for all my friends. None
of them have gotten a virus (but lots of them have gotten warnings).

Also I like the feature that it can alert my by mail when it detects
anything (wish it could send a mail when the registration should be
renewed as well, since that is the biggest problem for my friends Smile

I have seen Avast missing real viruses and on the hand issuing some
false positives.

I don't recommend Avast at all.
