Post subject: SpyBot/Teatimer crashing Archived from groups: alt>comp>anti-virus (more info?)
One of our machines (Win98ME) crashes every few hours. It leaves a white
box with no message and a single "Close" button which works. However, the
machine needs to be rebooted to get it working again because of
"Insufficient memory" errors. Today, I noticed the same box except it had
a message regarding a page fault from the kernel and saying Teatimer was
involved.
Has anyone suffered the same problem? Solved it? Thanks.

I have it running on a (second) old PC on WInME with very little
ram... but Teatimer works fine... no problem.

I have the same problem with Win98SE. If I leave teatimer on and my
computer goes into energy saving mod I have the Close button displayed
when I bring the monitor back up. I do not have to reboot but it messes
up my system tray. What I have done is put teatimer on my desktop and
turn it off when I leave my computer. Then I just start it again when I
come back to the computer.

Turning off Teatimer is not a good idea. It guards against changes to the
registry -- that's how your IE home page gets hijacked and other changes get
made. I hope that the SpyBot producers fix the problems. But I'm going to
look for other solutions.

The difference is probably that I am on dialup. So when I turn teatimer
off it is because I am leaving my computer and I am no longer connected
to the internet. I only turn if off when I am leaving the computer for
some length of time that would allow sleep mode to start. When I return
to the computer I restart teatimer and thus I am always protected by
teatimer when I am connected to the internet.

I have noticed MVP's in the MS groups recommend to only use energy
savings mode on laptops for which it was designed. On PC's, it tends
to be troublesome for many users and provides very limited benefit.
