I'm using NIS 2009 which includes NAV 2009. I installed it on three
computers and the install is incredibly fast - less then two minutes and
didn't require a reboot. I've used previous versions of NIS and NAV,
including 2008, and everything about the 2009 versions is dramatically
improved. Regarding detection I can't personally test it, but it did
receive very high marks from a recent PC Magazine review.

Norton products always recieve very high marks from PC magazines, for a
number of reasons:
i) People who write pc magazines always ahve the latest technology, with
huge amounts of ram, fast hard drives and latest processors. Try installing
it on a five year old emachine with 512mb of memory and a 2ghz celeron cpu.
ii) Symantec are *heavy* regular advertisers
