Post subject: McAfee Folders - Can These be Deleted Safely Archived from groups: alt>comp>anti-virus (more info?)
Hi all
I have a WinNT workstation that only has a 2Gb c: partition.
Problem is keeping sufficient space clear for smooth operation.
In the WinNT40 folder there are numerous sub-folders (maybe they were still
directories in those days) that are named with a four or five letter/number
mix. In each of these folders there are three or four files, some or all
of: clean.dat, scan.dat, names.dat and a nnnnn.upd file.
These are presumably records of updates for the a-virus software - can they
be deleted safely?

Yes if the files are dated to be more than a couple of days.
*.DAT are signiture filed.
*.UPD are incremental updates.
