Using Avira as my main scanner and Avast as my backup on-demand scanner,
I want to disable Avast Pro from loading anything at startup.

Even when I'm logged on as Admin I cannot disable the services
ashServ.exe and aswUpdSv.exe from starting, with either msconfig or a
third party service manager.

Any ideas how I can disable those two from loading at startup?

I'd uninstall Avast.

On-demand AV applications.
(add them to your arsenal and use them as a "second opinion" av scanner).

If you are familiar with editing the Registry, Use RegEdit.exe and
find the following keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

One of them may contain the full path and name of the 2 files you're
trying to prevent from loading.

When you find it, export that key to a .txt file as a backup. Then
delete the entry for that file. Do the same for the other file.

An alternate surefire way to stop those 2 files from loading is to
rename them.

I don't want to.

No different, can stop the service but not set it to manual or disable.

Found out how to. In the troubleshooting part of the setting there is an
option to disable Avast self-defense module.
