Post subject: Computer Associates eTrust EZ Antivirus 3-Pack real time scanner Archived from groups: alt>comp>anti-virus (more info?)
Just recently I have been having problems with this anti-virus
package.
It started displaying a popup saying "3 Threats detected and removed"
this box had a do not show again which I selected but it still kept
coming up.
I did a full system scan and found nothing.
I have found that real time scanning does not work (by using EICAR).
On demand scanning does work (by using EICAR)..
I uninstalled and re-installed but that did not fix.
I have tried disabling floppy scanning (as recommended on CA website).
I have the same sofware running on 2 other PC's with no problems.
Looking at the CA website it would appear that even though you have
bought the software you need to pay for support so I am hoping that
others here have experienced similar and can enlighten me.

Well, as you can see from lack of responses, the CA eTrust stuff isn't
very much used.
I used it when it was a freebie, and then paid for it for couple of
years, until about 2 years ago, when it started causing probs on several
XP boxes I managed, crashing apps and whatnot; tech support from CA
sucked, couldn't solve the probs, so dumped it.
Various AV comparison charts show it as not very effective either,
so...draw your own conclusions.

I had so much trouble with CA and made so many complaints that some how they
gave me a free lifetime subscription. I was never given an
explanation......I guess they just wanted to get rid of me. I still don't
use the program.
