Really? I havent come across any antivirus that can catch AV2008
installations, or, once infected carry out the necessary complete
immunisation.

Yes it does, I test it all the time when doing my Remove-it updates. AVG
does not and MBAM and SAS paid version with real-time protection does not
even catch it. MBAM will clean it but it does not repair the damage done
after cleaning like fixing the desktop tabs etc.... Remove-it fixes all
that. MBAM real-time protection is also a resources hog on Vista which
causes delays when opening or right clicking files. I do not recommend it
for the paid version.

Safe mode loads only enough to run Windows -- no "integrated software",
no network (unless specified), no preloads of *.DLLs to make starting
software quicker, no folders marked for system use, etc. That means a
whole load of stuff that is _not_ locked by Windows, and therefore can
be removed.

Anti-malware generally speaking cannot unlock and remove locked items.

As Ernie B says, a preboot scan is even better.

AVG scans the default e-mail client. Make Forte Agent your default, and
AVBG should scan incoming e-mails. Also set FA to open _no_ attachments
automatically. You decide. If you are suspicious, scan the attachment
before opening. NB that white-lists are not 100% secure: your friend may
be sending you an infected attachment.

Great, thanks! I will take a hard look at it.

I have Forte Agent set as the default e-mail client and have also set
Outlook to "not" test to see if it is the default e-mail client, but
AVG still does not scan Agent's e-mail. I think someone said you need
to the pop3 and smtp accounts for it to work. Tried that, but could
not get it to work.

FYI
Updates (for the USB stick) can be downloaded here:

- SAS
http://www.superantispyware.com/definitions.html
- MBAM
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
(scroll to the bottom for "Latest Database".)
