Post subject: AVG7 Free says files have changed
Archived from groups: alt>comp>anti-virus (more info?)

On my daughter's computer (XP SP2), AVG7 Free claims, on every scan,
that the following files have changed:

kernel32.dll
wsock32.dll
user32.dll
shell32.dll
ntoskrnl.exe

On my own computer, also XP SP2, AVG7 Free doesn't complain. I have
done a byte-for-byte comparison between those files on her system and on
mine, and they are identical, which suggests to me that there is no
actual problem on her system.

There is nothing on this issue on the AVG web site, and the
documentation that I have been able to find for AVG7 doesn't mention
anything about a "changed" status for files.

I'd have to guess that at some time in the past, AVG7 has taken a
"snapshot" of these files, and that the files have been updated since,
and that for some reason, my own computer's snapshot was updated but her
snapshot was not.

Does anyone know how I can get AVG7 to sort itself out?

Regards, Peter

I used AVG "Free" on my son's computer and it left a lot to be desired....I
do really think with AV programs you get what you pay for. My .02

Do you care at all about the malware it might spew onto others' during
the infected session?

Probably didn't cross your mind - but it's worth considering.
