I too had downloaded an older version (2.5hrs, dial-up) and was updated
to 8.0.138, but downloaded it all again to get the 8.0.138 version saved
on my Vista laptop's desktop. Then the re-installation was more of a
"repair" and allowed me to do the custom installation. (You don't have
to uninstall your current version.) Then I burned it to a cd to put it
on the old XP laptop. The trimmed version runs much better on both
laptops. Fast Scan time for the XP is 40 min, 20 min for the Vista. Not
much better than the old Free 7.5.
By choosing not to install the Linkscanner, it won't whine "you may not
be protected".
I also downloaded the new user guide.

Have a look in event history, it will confirm updates etc. Yes it does
take a long time, try cleaning your computer and getting rid of
rubbish bits it reduced the time dramatically. I also use Spysweeper,
that takes yonks also. You have a choice, do the job properly, or...
