Archived from groups: alt>comp>virus (more info?)

I'm looking for a new antivirus for our network of 50 workstations. I've
tried Trend, NOD32, Kaspersky, BitDefender and AVG, all with a central
management console.

None of them appear to have any features that puts it ahead of the others,
but I think that AVG is the easiest to set up and deploy across the network.

Looking at various virus comparisons online it appears to be reasonably
effective, though they all seem to have wildly differing results.

Before I go ahead and buy it, is there any reason I shouldn't?

On most sites it didn't rate too badly, though it seems to vary a lot
from site to site. I noticed that Avira rated very well though so I'm
testing that now.

In the place where I work right now they are using the AVG free
antivirus in most PCs, except mine, where I opted to use the Kaspersky
product, ..

I don't see any practical reason to buy it if they have a free version
available....and I think that is the main advantage of that Grisoft
product compared to the rest...

They are in violation of the Free AVG license.

"AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition is for private, non-commercial, single computer use only. The
use of AVG Free within any organization or for commercial purposes is strictly
prohibited."

http://free.avg.com/ww.download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition#tba2

So its use is disallowed in the place where you work.

If you're hired to do a job and the customer asks you do be unethical
then you have a choice to make - be unethical or be ethical and walk.

In all my years as a consultant I've never been asked to violate
software licensing after I explained the cost of being caught.

Do you really want to trust someone that was banned from posting
directly to Microsoft Usenet servers, someone that has posted links to
pornographic materials on HIS WEBSITE, who's website is in the MVP HOST
Block list, and who provides a tool for your use that will block access
to reputable anti-malware sites without telling you he's doing it?

Do you really want to trust someone that has had to change their posting
identity after being busted by MS as a fake MVP?

Stalking, even in usenet is a crime, there are enough pages from your
filthy site to prove you're stalking me in your posts, I have them
documented and certified authentic - it's your call now Stalker.

To look back at the issue , it was just a passing mention about the
logic of that employer that if he can get the software for free then
why buy it.. ? That was his preference it was not my job to meddle
with that even if I know that was wrong... Being professional means
you got a job to do and keep other issues thats not part of the
agreement..i.e interference and meddling...finish the job and earn
your fee...

At least my personal PC that was connected to his network at that time
had its own preinstalled antimalware ....and that is what is important
with bringing one's pc while working overseas....keep it safe.

What is relevant with that particular client( even with this different
cultural upbringing ) was that, I was properly compensated for the
recent work I did for him, and he respected the agreement and that's
what is important ...
