I've used AVG from grisoft.com for over a year now on XP Pro. I've never
had a problem with the program, or the updates, & am virus free. It
doesn't slow my computer down, & it works well with all my other
programs.

I've put AVG on other machines that people have had programs that they
have paid for, & found &/or removed virus's.

I'm sold on AVG

Everybody (at least in these news groups) is aware that no virus
scanner is able to certify that.

Therefore I prefer Avast! (which also checks - not certifies;-) - my
mail).

I just changed the certification in AVG to say that "No viruses were
found using current AVG defs." That works, it's not misleading, and it
doesn't really certify that there's no viruses (virus free), it just
states that it couldn't find any. Oh, BTW, AVG fails the eircar to
detect viruses in eircar test file.

If it don't work, hit it.
If it still doesn't work, kick it.
If it works after hitting it and kicking it, then it doesn't matter if
hitting it or kicking it helped, what's important is it worked.

of avg...

I doubt it, you could try installing it yourself and run the eicar test.
Sophos picked it up fine (in fact, I had to purge system restore to
rid myself of the messages, since I left it on my PC too long). If you
do test AVG, and you get the false positive, then let me know.
