The updates are working without problems since 3 last days (from AOL).
I use AVS 2.5

Hmmmm. As of yesterday, mine was not updating until I made the above
change. Now I will never know for my system eh?

Jo, thanks for that confirmation!
BTW, I have Bear Bottoms kill-filed, so only saw his post while
reading this one. I had edited the aol-updcfg.xml but a new one gets
downloaded during the update, replacing the edited version, so the
HOSTS file edit was required. Irrelevant, as it now works without
changes to either file.

Once the change is made to the cfg file, it remains functional.

Since I had already deleted the installer, I had to find a download site that still offered it from their server.

Allan, thanks for this info. I had understood (incorrectly) that the
download is encoded with the matching license key. I thought I had
tried to install one I had downloaded for general use, and used the
key in the client's e-mail, but it didn't accept it. I will try again,
using your advice. The reason this would be great, is that it would
save the lenthy download of the program for dial-up users, and it
extends the license period.
BTW, has anyone tried uninstalling, running the KAV cleaner to rid all
traces of the previous install (I hope) and re-installing? If that
works, that would be terrific!

I unintalled August 31 after several efforts to make the update
function work. On Friday evening I reinstalled AVS. It works perfectly.
I did not change any config files. I just reinstalled from my saved
install program and added the registration number. No change what so
ever was made to the HOSTS file. About 3 mb. of updates and program
update were downloaded after the installation.

K-AVS used to leave it's data in the streams of every singe NTFS file
on the system. Does it still do this?
If it does then Total Uninstall probably didn't track that.
