Hello.

A colleague of me has extracted (and locked) some files in VSS (via VS
2005). He is away for a month and I need to acces them.

How can I unlock these files ?

Thank you,
Gilbert

Gilbert:

If you log in to VSS as the administrator, you should be able to undo
the checkout locks directly from there.

Use SourceSafe Explorer instead.

if you care about what that user may have changed and if you have
access to that user's drive, then take her copy of the file, put it in
a local folder and then point the working folder in SS to it. Then you
can do a "compare" and if you want to keep her changes, you may be
able to do Check In instead of Undo Checkout.

Thanks Jeff but how ? I explain :

I run VSS admin (ssadmin.exe), version 8.
It automatically opens my vss base and displays the user list. Admin is
selected and connected.
Now what menu ? Tools ? The first three submenus (about rights) are
disabled. Why ?
Furthermore I see on the right part of the status bar the following text :
"Project rights : desactivated" (translated from French).

Any idea ?

Regards,
Gilbert

Log into SourceSafe Explorer (ssexp.exe) as "admin", find the checked out
file, right click it, and select undo checkout.

Gilbert:

Sorry, I should have been a bit more thorough, and other posts have
clarified for me. You log in using the VSS Explorer using the
Administrator account, go to the file(s) in question, and undo the check
out.

Undo-ing a checkout is not available in the VSS Admin Tool.
