I'm an end user primarily and I need to know how to configure or export
Access tables and all of its other objects to a MySql Server so it can run
faster. Currently the Access databases are becoming too large and cumbersome
dramatically affecting processing time.

My general question is what are the necessary step in putting Access onto a
MySql Server?

why mySQL?

Move it to MS SQL Server first

SQL Server is free-- Access database sucks.
Use the free tools and free db server -- it's called SQL Server, the
most popular database engine in the world.

This is probably not the appropriate forum for a discussion of how to
migrate from Access to another vendor's database plaform, but your best bet
is to use Google and view the countless articles and products.

Next, you might want to view the MySQL web site to see what they have to
offer.

Larry

Note to Aaron: MySQL Server is free...

It *is* more full-featured that MySQL, so the fact that it is free,
too, makes it more than competitive, in my opinion.

WinFS-- Long dead.. Good Stuff-- Actually it's here ALREADY it's
called SQL Server Compact Edition
and SQL Server Data Services, for that matter.

Access doesn't have a history, a future-- a high end or a migration
path.
Move to SQL Server 2005 and things just work.

True, indeed. But why are you stating this? Larry never claimed
anything different -- he said that *Jet* was included in Windows,
which is indisputably true, and has been since 1999 (i.e., from the
release of Win2K on).

*You* are the one who makes a habit of purposefully obfuscating the
difference between Access and its Jet database engine.

You mean the WinFS? That is long dead -- it was planned for the
version of Windows that was abandoned about 4 years ago in favor of
a new version of Windows based on the Win2K3 server codebase (which
was itself based on the WinXP codebase).

So you sayin' The Man, he right -- it don't have all the stuff of the full
product. Le's hear it for The Man!

Pull your head out, babykins. Big Bruce, Big Bubba, and Big Barney ain't
gonna want your empty head in their way, anyway.

Go tell that to all them folks out at Microsoft. They need a smart feller
like you to splain it, cuz they sure done waste lotta work on four new
versions in that decade. Maybe they give you a percentage of what you save
'em? But maybe they run you sorry ass off again?
