Post subject: How to insert auto-incremental numbers on Publisher
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>publisher (more info?)

Hi, I am trying to create tickets on MS Publisher for my organization.
And stuck on the part of generating different ticket numbers for my
publisher file.

Is there anyway that I can insert an automatic-increment numbers on my
ticket, so when printing next page, the number will increase by itself
without typing it manually?

Thank you & Regards.

Mail Merge. Create a data base with consecutive numbers.

Mail and catalog merge

I have done something similar elsewhere and offer the following extra tip.

If you have (say) 4 (tickets) on a sheet and number them consecutively then
after guillotining the four piles of tickets will not have consecutive
numbers and you may then need to do a lot of sorting. Also, unless your
guillotining is very accurate, the tickets may need trimming to create tidy
piles.

If however you write a little (maybe BASIC) program to create the number
sequence so that each guillotined pile has consecutive numbers you can save
yourself a lot of work and have a much tidier piles of tickets!

I am assuming that your guillotine can handle the complete set of sheets -
if not you may have to do it in batches and some of the advantage is lost.

All this may sound complicated - but in principle you only need to write the
(BASIC) program once - hence if you print many sets of tickets etc. it is
very worthwhile.

John

So, how is it done?
Just need to know.
Small organization print ticket, multiple per page, a simple non-cpu-geek application will be nice.
