Post subject: There is a diff chain size mismatch
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>visual>sourcesafe (more info?)

I have been receiving the following message during the Visual SourceSafe 2005
Analyze every night.

"There is a diff chain size mismatch in file 'MDMsgLibrary.xml' (qjcaaaaa)
at version 1288 (versions earlier than that version can no longer be
retrieved from the database)."

The thing is that I have completely deleted/destroyed all occurrances of
MDMsgLibrary.xml and then recreated them so that their version starts back at
1 because the history was not that important for this file. I expected this
to resolve the problem but I am still getting the same error talking about
version 1288. Can anyone help me resolve this error?

If the file <databasepath>\data\q\qicaaaaa still exists, you haven't
destroyed all copies of that file. Perhaps there is a deleted but not
destroyed version of the file. Using the command line "ss cp $/" and "ss
dir -d -r" will list all the deleted files in the database.
