Every time I start up Access 2003, the Windows Installer says preparing to
install and then please wait while Windows configures Office Prof...

I found a kb about this referring to OFF2000 and it looks like just the
right thing. Only trouble is the web site they have you link to to get
Orktools.exe doesn't have Orktools.exe on it - or I can't find it.

Can anyone help me? This only happens when I start Access, no other Office
2003 products. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry too hear it, I upgrade a friend computer with 1gb it didn't help. So i
unstalled the problem and cleanup the drive and did the unthinkable and
upgrade. MS should be happy about that. so far so good!!

Hi:

I have the same problem and could make no sense of the download for the
Orktools.exe or how to stop the "Install Loop". All my MS Office programs
work except for Access. It continually wants to reinstall and then nothing.
No error messages, nada. It won't start from the Programs Menu, or from
inside the folder in Office 20003/msaccess.exe.....just same install loop.

Really need help. I even went into Services and turned on "everything"
thinking there was some sort of associated program/service needed.
Uninstalled/ Reinstalled tried the MSaccess 97 font rename trick I found
somewhere and still.......NADA. How can I fix this error, I don't want to
buy Access2007 because the msAccess 2003 should work! All the other Office
Suite 2003 programs run flawlessly.

HELP.

I FOUND MY OWN ANSWER!
microsoft.public.access.setupconfig ::POST CATEGORY::
Windows Installer appears when opening Access 2003

maybe this article can help you:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/265194

Do you have more then one version of Office/Access installed? If there are
multiple versions of Microsoft Access installed, Windows Installer runs
whenever a different version is loaded.

This post was for MS Access 2000 but I have 2003, so I renamed msaccess.exe
and ran Access from the MS Office Folder, got the install screen again and
PRESTO Access 2003 LOadED ! I somehow had two installations or something.???

Renaming MSACCESS worked for me as well. I don't know how but there were two
exe's in the same folder. The one dated 8/15/2003 works the other dated
7/7/2005 gives me the "preparing to install" box. Not sure what happened as
I have un-installed and re-installed Access twice. Hope this helps as I have
spent hours on this issue!

This is a joke and the joke is on us. Don't you wish MS would quit releasing
programs before they are ready? The phrase, "Overpromise and under deliver
comes to mind."

For the last year or so I am THAT close to switching to a Mac. I often
wonder why I am so stupid I buy Microsoft beta programs.

Anyway, does ANYBODY at MS know this is a widespread problem? Any clue
about how to fix it?

Thanks,

JGP
