Hi, Trying to install Std 2007 and it keeps coming up with not being able to
locate earlier version. I have working copy of 2000 Technical Edition on the
machine. But it is not recognising is.

Is there a certain file / folder I can point it at, or something I can
download. Thanks.

Also is there much real difference between the 2007 Std and Pro for joe

It does say on the side the box "licensed user of one of the following
products: Microsoft Visio Standard 2000-2002". Which is why I brought the
product. Is this false information, or am I understanding it wrong?

Hello Neil,

well Visio 2000 is NOT an eligible update version for Visio 2007 anymore -
you need Visio 2003.
Also: yes there is the data graphics and data linking capabilities of Visio
2007 (intelligent visualisation of data) -see more at the visio products

I'm not familiar with the details of our upgrade policy. However, Visio
2000 Technical is not the same as Microsoft Visio Standard 2000. Also you
have to be careful with anything from the Visio 2000 era. There is the
original Visio 2000 released by Visio Corporation, and there is Microsoft
Visio 2000 released by Microsoft Corporation after they bought Visio Corp.
Microsoft only supports upgrades from Microsoft Visio 2000 flavors.

To rephrase what Mark said, only a Microsoft verion of Visio qualifies for
an upgrade. When Visio acquired Microsoft in 2000, it was shortly after the
release of Visio 2000. Shortly after Microsoft released a rebranded version
of Visio with a few bug fixes. This was also made avaiable as SR1, a free
patch to upgrade the Visio verion of Visio 2000 to the Microsoft version.
The patch is no longer available.

So if the splash screen on your Visio Tech 2000 does not say Microsoft, then
you are out of luck.
