Something new in Visio 2007,
Apprently some drawing objects resize by default with automatic aspect ratio
enabled, and I'd like to turn it off.
Have compared to other objects where automatic aspect ratio is not enabled
and can't find a different setting.
Have tried removing inheritance from the page and the Format > Behavior and
Format > Protection properties of the object with no success.

Shape behavior can change based on how the designer developed it, and if
there are add-ins associated with it. Even when the shapes are supposed to
portray the same real-world object (check out the differences when tow vendor
supply objects such as servers).
Short answer - What you're seeing isn't unusual.

Thx,
Am disappointed though that this should be a designer restriction anyone
would support and in particular any of the default images in Visio 2007.
It's not like the User can't resize retaining the aspect ratio of course...
That's what the "corner" resizing handles do. But to disable the ability to
re-size without retaining the original aspect ratio --- What logic is there
is not making that available to the User?

It's possible to visualise many shapes that should always retain their
aspect ratio.

As the others have mentioned, the behaviour may have been set by the shape
developer.
Open the Shapesheet for the shape and take a look at the settings for Hieght
and Width. They may contain a formula where the value of one is based on the
other.
(You may have to turn on Developer Mode to get access to the Shapesheet)
